Got someone in your life who can’t get their nose out of their book? Use that to your advantage this Christmas and get them a gift they’ll

really love. Here are the top 5 gifts that you should get a bookworm this year:

1. The Bookstore Gift Card

This may seem simple and a bit cliché, but it’s a gift they’ll really be able to use. Generally, book-lovers have a list in their head of the next book they’re going to get their hands on when they scrounge up the money, so having a gift card is like having unlimited access to the library of their dreams. You also avoid running the risk of buying them a book they’ve already read or one that they aren’t at all interested in. The beauty of the gift card is that depending on your relationship with this person, you can keep it small or go all out price-wise.

2. Book Accessories

Another simple, yet effective gift for the bookworm is any kind of book accessory. Whether you notice that they are always losing their book marks or need a new reading light, Christmas is the perfect time to stock up. These are usually little items, so making a basket full of goodies, such as a mug with a literary quote on it, a witty t-shirt, a reusable shopping bag (for those wonderful trips to the bookstore), and maybe a Post-It Flag Highlighter (for when they love a quote) is a wonderful gift. A bigger accessory could be a set of nice bookends or even bookshelf, since you’ve seen that they have stacks piling up on their bedroom floor

3. A Book Journal

This isn’t a gift for everyone, but for the writer/book junkie of yours, it’s perfect. Book journals give them a place to reflect on what they’ve just read and review it. For the more organized, it keeps track of how many books they’ve read. For the creative, it’s an outlet to express how the book made them feel. For the critical, it gives them a space to really break it down. The options are endless for this because you can either get a preprinted book journal that has places for the name of the book, author, and comments, or you could just buy a nice Moleskine journal and tell them what you hope they’ll use it for.

4. A Collector’s Edition or a Set

You may have seen Leather-bound Collector’s Edition works at Barnes and Noble and if you’re like me, you drool over them. There’s something about a book with a beautiful cover that cuts right to the soul of the book-lover. Find out what their favorite Classic is and see if there is a Vintage edition of it. Another way to approach this is to see if there are any of the original copies of this book on Ebay, Amazon or Craigslist (as always, proceed with caution on these sites!). This will be very expensive, but your bookworm will light up like a Christmas Tree when he or she opens it. Another option along this line is to buy a set of books for your bibliophile that you’re sure he or she wants and would read or by their favorite author. It’s simple, yet effective.

5. An E-Reader

This is an expensive and controversial option for this type of person. There are many options in varying styles of NooksKindles and iPads, but what you need to first make sure of is if this person would use it. I thought that I would hate using an E-Reader but got a Nook for Christmas two years ago and absolutely love it. Not only is it more cost-efficient than buying books, but it’s like having an entire library at my fingertips. I would suggest this for any bookworm who is open to the idea. They won’t look back (too often). If they already have one, get them accessories for it! You can’t go wrong with cases, screen protectors and styluses.

Stick to bookish gifts this Christmas for that special book nerd and you can’t go wrong!
